Police‘ll monitor vote buying and selling -DIG

The authority of Nigerian Police Force said it has dispatched team of intelligence operatives to monitor votes buying and selling in Bayelsa state.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of election logistics in the South-south geo-political zone, DIG Frederick Lakanu, disclosed this in Yenagoa, in a familiarization meeting with stakeholders, men and officers of the command at the police headquarters.

He said: “Our intelligence team has been dispatched to all section of the country including Bayelsa state to monitor votes buying and selling, we have done our analysis, we have ideas of where problems could emanate from and we are out to arrest the situation.

“Election will be credible, peaceful, free and fair, we are going to be extremely professional, but we know we cannot provide security security alone, we need the support of stakeholders and the people to ensure that the election is peaceful.

“That is why I come to reappraise and re- access the level of preparation for the election in Bayelsa state so that we can assist the operational strategies.” He said.

The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa state, Mr Aminu Saleh Pai said, the command has established community policing to fight against criminals that will disrupt the elections.

He said the Command is ready to ensure peaceful elections, come Feb. 16 and officers and men have been trained and adviced on electoral malpractices in the state.
