Policeman crushed by Hisbah driver abandoned in hospital

A 45-year-old policeman attached to Dawakin Kudu Divisional Police station in Kano, was last weekend, crushed by a Hisbah driver. Blueprint learnt that the incident occurred at about 11pm on Saturday, when the policeman, Sgt. Adamu Garba, was knocked down at his duty post along Zaria Road by one Zakariyya Usman, the Hisbah driver.

According to an eyewitness, Usman, who was driving against traffi c, crushed Garba’s legs, one of his arms and part of his head. Sources revealed that Fu’ad Yusha’u is O.C operations of Hisbah who commanded the driver to drive against traffi c to catch up with a trailer. Our investigation further revealed that when the wife of the policeman, Mrs. Maryam Adamu Garba, visited the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, she lamented that her husband was abandoned.

“Since that night my husband was knocked down by the Hisbah vehicle, which was 12th of August 2017, we have been in this hospital. It is the District Police Offi cer that has been treating him, that night alone, he spent over N30, 000 on his treatment. If not for DPO Idris Mohammed, my husband would have died because the Hisbah people abandoned him.’’ Garba, according to medical reports will have to undergo major surgical operations on the legs to be able to walk again.
