Political appointment: NCWS makes case for Women ‘masive’ inclusion

The National Council of Women Societies, (NCWS) has decried the poor emergence of women at all levels in the just concluded 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
The President of the Council, Dr (Mrs) Gloria Laraba Shoda, (mni) in a statement also described the situation as unimpressive and not good for the development of the country.

According to her, a lot of women emerged as candidates of their political parties to vie for various positions, but regretted that their male counterparts with  money bags outweighed them.

”The men had money to attract more votes to the detriment of the women who do not have the money to do so, which resulted to poor outcome of female emergency nationwide,” Shoda noted.

She used the opportunity to call on government at all levels to appoint women into various cabinet to close the gap.
”I want to urge the federal and state governments to appoint women ministers, commissioners, heads of agencies with a view to closing the gap,’’ she said.

According to her, women in positions of authority resolve national crises without resorting to violence, advocate for social issues that benefit all, and allocate budgets to health and education.

Shoda said that investing in women’s right to political participation was a necessary step towards achieving global gender equality and democratic governance.
“This investment creates a ripple effect that yields multiple benefits, not only for the individual woman, but also for families, communities, and countries.

“Studies show that increasing women’s participation in politics lead to greater investments in education and female board representation boast higher return on investment.

“Research has also suggested that gender balance in the political sphere promotes gender balance in the workforce, which could double global Gross Domestic Product,’’ she said.

2019 general elections recorded an unimpressive women emergence at levels of government.
