Polls: Acting IGP deploys 7 DIGs, 10 AIGs, 277 CPs to zones, commands

Acting Inspector General of Police Muhammed Adamu has deployed seven Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) to the six geo-political zones, and 10 Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to the Police zonal commands as well as additional 277 Commissioners of Police including CPs,  DCPs and ACPs to complement the efforts of the CPs in 36 state commands and the FCT, for the March 9 governorship, House of Assembly and Area Council’s elections.

Force Public Relations Officer,  Frank Mba in a press statement, Wednesday in Abuja,  said: “With this deployment, each command now has additional three CPs deployed to the three senatorial districts in their respective states of assignment which will form part of security management base for the command CPs. However, based on security assessment earlier carried out by the Force, some Local Government Areas in Plateau, Benue, Imo and Taraba states have one Commissioner of Police each deployed to coordinate security in the LGA.

“Each of them is expected to work with the Command CP and to ensure that no stone is left unturned towards emplacing adequate security including the supervision of security personnel deployed to each of the Senatorial Districts under their watch.”

Mba listed the DIGs as Usman Tilli Abubakar,  North-east, Abdulmajid Ali as Coordinator, Frederick Taiwo Lakanu, South-south, Anthony Ogbizi Michael, South-east, Yakubu Jubrin, South-west, Aminchi S. Baraya, North-west,  and Godwin C. Nwobodo, North-central.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson said four commands: Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo and Sokoto, have new CPs posted specifically as command CPs for purposes of the election.

He said CP Rabiu Ladodo was deployed to Anambra, CP Olushola David to Baylesa, CP Dan-Mallam Mohammed to Edo and CP Aminu Koji Kwabe to Sokoto.

Similarly, Benue, Imo, Plateau, and Taraba states have a CP deployed to some of its Local Government Areas namely: Guma LGA, Logo LGA, Agatu LGA, Gwer East LGA, Gwer West LGA, Katsina Ala LGA, Okpokwu LGA, Ukum LGA in Benue, Orlu LGA, and Okigwe LGA Imo, Langtang South LGA, Jos South LGA, Bassa LGA, Langtang North LGA, Riyom LGA, and Barkin Ladi LGA in Plateau state, as well as Wukari LGA, Ibi LGA, Lao LGA, Karim Lamido LGA, Bali LGA, Kurmi LGA, Jalingo LGA, Dunga LGA, Sardauna LGA in Taraba

The spokesperson said the acting IGP has assured that, “just as in the recently concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Nigeria Police Force shall remain civil, firm, optimally professional and apolitical in the discharge of our duties in the 9thMarch, 2019 elections.”
