Polls: Nasarawa PDP, PDM candidates file petitions at tribunal

Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Nasarawa South Senatorial District,  Suleiman Adokwe, and the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) Abdullahi Agwai, have filed separate petitions to challenge the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, governor Umaru Almakura, at the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Lafia on Sunday.

INEC had declared the candidate of the APC and the governor of Nasarawa state Umaru Almakura winner of the February 23rd National Assembly election.

In the petition, counsel to Senator Adokwe, Isreal Usman, said victory was snatched from his client while urging the tribunal to look into petition and do the needful.

Speaking to newsmen on Sunday after presenting his petition, at about 5:15 pm, Adokwe said he wants to reclaim his mandate that was stolen by Almakura in collaboration with INEC.

He stated that he had a valid ground to file the petition and nobody can steal the mandate of the people that came out massively to vote for him and go free with it.  “We are reclaiming our mandate back through the legal process my mandate will be given to me”.

Meanwhile, counsel to the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate Abdullahi Agwai, who was represented by Christain Wanche, in his 106-page petition said his client was excluded in the ballot paper by INEC.

” We are praying the court to declare that the election that declared Almakura winner be declared as illegal and called for bye election”.

“In our own part our client having fulfilled all the condition to participate in the election denied the right to participate so in that case we are coming to court and if the court see our reason that way they will surely enter judgment in our favour”.
