Positive Jigawa medical personnel reject isolation centres

Some medical personnel who tested positive to COVID-19 in Jigawa have refused to be admitted in any of the three isolation centres in the state.

Blueprint learnt that some of the medical staff of the Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu and Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital Dutse who had tested positive to COVID-19, refused to be admitted for treatment in any of the isolation centres.

When contacted on his mobile phone, the Jigawa state Commissioner for Health who is also chairman of the state Taskforce Committee on COVID-19, Dr. Abba Zakari, confirmed that some health workers in state had tested positive to coronavirus.

Dr. Abba Zakari explained that, “Yes of course, some health workers tested positive to COVID-19 in the state, but it is not true that they refused to be admitted in any of the isolation.”

When asked about the actual number of medical personnel who tested positive to the virus in the state, the health commissioner said “I don’t have the actual number now but I will find out and get back to you.”

Zakari however said, so far, four patients have been discharged as the total cases rise to 116.

“We initially discharged one patient and now we also received the result of three more patients which confirmed negative and were discharged.

“All the patients in our isolation centres are doing fine with treatment and we have seen positive responses as four of our patients have been discharged,” he stated.
