Post COVID-19: AFAN calls for stakeholders synergy on food sufficiency

The President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Arc Kabir Ibrahim, has called for synergy among stakeholders in the country for food production during and after the Coronavirus pandemic.
Ibrahim in a message to commemorate the May 1, workers’ days, said “this year’s workers’ day happens in the middle of a global pandemic threatening the life and livelihood of everyone.”
According to him: “The workers including those working the soil to provide food for all celebrate this day with the promise of making Nigeria Food sufficient sustainably.

“The farmers are enjoined to put all hands on deck to upscale their production to avert food shortage in the country.
“The Federal, State Governments, Development partners, financial Institutions, researchers and all able bodied Nigerians should work in synergy to make Nigeria food sufficient during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The time to act is now.
“The provision of improved seeds, fertilizers and other imputs at subsidized prices will incentivize the farmers to upscale the production of food crops to make Nigeria mitigate the effect of the scourge.

“Encouraging workers in the agricultural sector, Ibrahim urge them to own Agricultural production and Agribusiness going forward because it will dominate the global economy for many years after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The scourge is ravaging the health sector and the economy globally but the real negative impact is on the global food system and therefore this presents an opportunity for us to cut a niche’.
“Think outside the box to make the Nigeria Agriculture Space vibrant and impactful now. i trained as an Architect but I diversified into Agriculture because I thought fast and today I am glad to say that I’m in very good company with you all,” he said.
