Power generation peaks by 91,801 MW –NBS

 

National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said that power generation for the third quarter of 2017 released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was on the average of 82,266 mega watts.

According to the bureau, daily energy generation attained a peak of 3,880 MW in September, 2017 and daily energy sent out was 3,825 MW.

Similarly, the highest daily energy generated per hour attained a peak of 93,118 on 1st September, 2017 and daily energy sent out per hour on same date was 91,801 MW.

“This represents the highest level of energy generated and sent out in the month of September 2017 and in Q3 2017,” the bureau said in a report.

It stated, however, that the lowest daily energy generation on 14th September, 2017 was 2,354 MW within the same Q3, while daily energy sent out on that date was 2,310 MW.

“The lowest daily energy generation per hour was 56,486 MW and was also attained on same date and 55,444 MW was sent out.”
Meanwhile, the National Council on Power (NACOP) has directed the NERC to commence, within 30 working days, aggressive multi-platform public awareness programme to properly explain policies, regulations and obligations related to metering.

The NACOP also directed the NERC to reinstate regulations permitting willing customers to purchase meters from approved meter vendors as approved by the Distribution Companies (DisCos) and the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) with a framework to reimburse such customers in cash, or energy.

The directives were part of the resolutions contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the third National Council on Power (NACOP), held in Jos, Plateau state and released by the Planning, Research and Statistics Department of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing in Abuja.
