Power’ll be restored in Maiduguri soon–FG

The Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, has stated that power supply will soon be restored to Maiduguri,Borno state.

A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the Assistant Director, Press, Federal Ministry of Power, Mr. Odutayo Oluseyi, quoted the ministry speaking when the Vice Chancellor, Borno State University, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe paid him a courtesy call in Abuja.

(NESI), Aliyu said tall efforts are in gear to restore Power to Maiduguri, adding that it is expected to be concluded in about six weeks’ time. 

He said Independent Power Plants projects are being handled through the policy on Off grid and Mini grid, adding that the Mini grid will adequately cater for all renewables.

The minister directed that the Rural Electrification Agency explore ways in which the State universities will benefit from the Energizing Education Policy of the Federal Government.

Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Borno State University, Prof. Umar Kyari Sa, appreciated the  minister for his unrelenting efforts at reforming the Power Sector.  

He said the institution has been out of power supply since 2020 due to the insurgency, saying that the university has been on generators which takes a huge sum of its funding.

Sandabe added that the generators, despite consuming huge sum of their funds, do not provide adequate needed electricity power for the University operations. 

He craved the indulgence of the minister to ensure that power supply be restored to the university, promising that the institution will secure all power projects within its premises.
