Pray God to heal Nigeria of Covid-19, NUJ tasks Christians at Easter

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B, on Friday called on Christians in Nigeria to pray to God to heal “our land and the whole world of the deadly Covid-19 disease.”

In a statement jointly issued by NUJ Zone B vice-president, Comrade Cosmos Oni, and secretary-general, Comrade Bamigbola Gbolagunte, the union stated that the “time is now for Christians throughout the world to pray for an end to the deadly disease.”

The union in the statement stated that this year’s Easter period should be used by all Christians to seek for God’s mercy on the deadly coronavirus.

It read in part, “We must at this trying time pray to God to heal our land and Easter brings us such opportunity to pray to God. Let’s all seek the face of God and ask for the mercy of the Lord at this perilous time in our history. Everyone must come together and seek God to save us even as we keep safe and maintain proper hygiene as laid down by health officials to ensure that we send Covid-19 out of the world.”

While congratulating Christians on this year’s Easter celebration, the zone, comprising the six states of the South-west, advised Christian leaders across Nigeria to obey all the directives of the government regarding Covid-19 as they celebrate Easter.

The union also urged Christians to imbibe the characters of Jesus Christ, whose resurrection, they celebrate at Easter, by being obedient to authorities, saying, “Easter signifies the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; hence the need for all and sundry to respect the teachings of Jesus Christ which include respect for constituted authorities.”

It, however, called on all journalists to keep safe in all their professional activities, and prayed that God “will resurrect all that is dead in the lives of all journalists and the nations of the world.”
