Kurt Zouma was the subject of vile racist abuse after his late own goal cost Chelsea two points against Sheffield United.
The French defender turned into his own net with just 30 seconds left of normal time, handing the Blades a 2-2 draw.
And within minutes of the goal going in, social media was awash with disgusting racial slurs aimed at the centre-back.
There were numerous tweets calling Zouma a “n*****”, another calling him a “baboon” and others in which he was labelled a “f***ing black s***”.
Blues striker Tammy Abraham was also targeted by trolls after he missed a decisive penalty in the European Super Cup against Liverpool.
Lampard said: “We have to look at social media platforms, and give some accountability to people who register – so they can be chased down for it.”
Asked if Chelsea would meet with Twitter in an attempt to solve the issue, he said: “We have plans to do that.”
Manchester United stars Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have also been the target of racist abuse this season.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last week said he was “lost for words” and echoed Lampard’s sentiment that trolls hiding behind fake profiles can go unpunished.
He said: “It’s unheard of and we need it to stop.
“I’m just lost for words if it keeps going. We keep having all these campaigns ‘No to Racism’ and it keeps hiding behind fake identities.
“Racist insults are ignorance and can only make me stronger and motivate me to fight for the next generation.”
“It’s just crazy that we talk about this in 2019.”
Earlier this week Pogba posted a picture of himself standing next to his father and Martin Luther King, promising to “fight for the next generation”.
“My ancestors and my parents suffered for my generation to be free today, to work, to take the bus, to play football,” he wrote on his Instagram page.
