Premier League: Aribo fires first goal for Saints, Jesus Nets Arsenal brace, Ndidi, Iheanacho’s Leicester City crash

The week two English Premier League encounter for some Nigeria’s Super Eagles stars in the English Premier League was a moment to forget, while it turned out to be a fair home debut for midfielder Joe Aribo who scored for his new club Southampton.

Aribo revived Saints’ hope in their game against Leed United. 

The Nigerian man who moved from Rangers in Scotland scored in the 72nd minute of the game before Southampton came from 0-2 down to pull a draw against the visitors.

The result served as consolation for the Saints who lost their opening day game to Aston Villa.

The outcome of second week action wasn’t the same for fellow compatriots Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho who play for Leicester City as they lost 2-4 to Arsenal inside Emirates stadium on Saturday August 13, 2022.

It was a Gabriel Jesus scored his first Premier League goals for the gunners.

The Brazilian striker, signed from Manchester City in the summer, scored twice before the break and missed several chances for a hat-trick as well assisting his side’s other goals.

Elsewhere, another Super Eagles player Alex Iwobi lost his second match of the season with Everton that succumbed to Aston Villa 1-2 defeat.

Everton had lost their opening league duel to Chelsea last week.

The biggest win of the Saturday afternoon clashes came from 2021/22 league winners Manchester City after they showed class to outclass Bournemouth 4-0 at Etihad.
