Presidency 2023: Group drums support for South East, North Central

A north central group known as North Central Progressive Group (NCPG), has demanded for the nation’s number one and second (President and Vice President) positions to be zoned to the South East and North Central.
The spokesperson of the NCPG, Benjamin Sanni, who made the demand Tuesday, said that the position of the President and that of the  Vice President, should be rotated based on geopolitical zones and north on North and South bases.

Sanni said that since 1999, the north central has neither produced President nor Vice President and that if the opportunity is given to the zone, it would produce a President that would take Nigeria to where it should be.
He said they support the southern Governors on the issue of open grazing, electronic transmission of results but on the rotation of the presidency on North and South bases: they won’t support.

“We support the issue of ban on open grazing, electronic transmission of results. But on the issue of rotation of the presidency; the north central and the southeast are being marginalised. There should be equity in the distribution of leadership.
“The north central and the southeast has north produced the President or Vice President since 1999. We appeal to other zones to support the north central for the position of the President and we are demanding that all political parties produce their candidates from the north central zone,” he said.

On the issue of getting the needed support from other zones, he said, ” Once the political we present our best other zones will support us.”
A member of the group, Aisha Okoye, said the north central geopolitical zone has never demanded for the nation’s number one position and that other regions should support them since it’s their first time since 1999 when the fourth republic started.

“The north central geopolitical zone since 1999 has not asked for the position of the presidency; this is the first time they are asking and it will only be fair if all other zones will support them”, she said.
Another member of the group, Hon. Felix Idowu, said the north central has very capable and qualified person’s who can properly manage the presidency and deliver by solving Nigerian problems.
“We have very good candidates in the north central who are qualified and capable of solving Nigerian problems. They have been tried, tested and trusted,” he said.

The group said for equity and fairness, the two most marginalised geopolitical zones (North Central and Southeast) when it comes to the distribution of leadership positions in the country be allowed to produce the president and the vice president.
