Presidency accuses PDP of sponsoring Charly Boy’s protest group

The presidency has flayed a group of protesters led by the activist cum entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as ‘Charly Boy’, saying their protests are being sponsored by the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
A member of the presidential media team, Dr. Chida Maduekwe, spoke on a phone-in programme of a private radio station in Osogbo, Osun state capital.
The co-coordinator of “Our Mumu don do campaign”, Deji Adeyanju and Charles Oputa (Charly boy), had featured on the programme tagged “Frank Talk” of Rave FM, describing the anti-graft war of president Muhammadu Buhari as “insincere and one-sided”.
The duo of Adeyanju and Charly Boy were said to have stormed the Unity Fountain, the heart of the federal capital territory, alleging that president Buhari was protecting his aides that were alleged of corruption from probe.
According to the group, corruption is being fought in the pages of newspapers. They called on the president to give similar treatment to the suspended SGF, Babachir Lawal and other top government officials that were involved in allegation of corruption, as he did to Doyin Okupe and other oppositions that are being probed.
Charly Boy who said that the group was interfacing with the EFCC on their demand to probe government officials that were indicted, added ” I’m not sure whether they have the will to do what they are meant to do, and that is the problem”.
In his response, Dr. Maduekwe said the group is only demanding that the president should quit, insisting that “the PDP stalwarts are sponsoring them.
Reacting to the issue of fraud in the NNPC, Maduekwe denied the allegation that the president was shielding his aides from probe.
He said “the president is not interested in ceding any corrupt person. The issue between Kachukwu and Baru is not corruption, it was just an issue of ego. We are only looking for fraud where there is no fraud.
On why the president has not spoken about the issue, he said “Dr. Ibe Kachukwu has said there was no 25billion dollar missing. The Vice President has spoken. Buhari should not be expected to speak on the issue again, because presidency is one.
Reacting to the alleged sectional sentiment where president Buhari was said to have given directive to the world Bank president to concentrate development on the northern part, the presidential media aide denied the sentiment allegation.
He said, “we should not forget that the world Bank investigation has showed that the poverty index of the North East, even before Boko Haram, was the highest in the whole federation.
Maduekwe stated that the decision of the world Bank to develop the North East, considering the havoc wrecked by Boko Haram, was not wrong.
