Presidential aspirant to Buhari: Step down for me

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Christmas Akpodiete, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to step down for him to be the sole candidate of the party in the 2019 presidential polls.

Akpodiete, who made the appeal in Abuja yesterday while officially declaring his intention to run for the office, commended Buhari and the National Assembly for the speedy passage and signing into law of the Not Too Young to Run bill, which he said paved the way for him to vie for president.

According to him, “The nation is in dire need of a younger president and the time to retire the political oligarchs is now.”

He said APC stands the better chance of winning the 2019 presidential election with him as its flag bearer, and promised that if elected, he would use his experience as a player in the oil and gas sector to flood the country with American based companies that specialise in power generation, railway and modular refineries.

It would be recalled that Akpodiete in 2015 unsuccessfully ran for the office of governor in Delta state.
