Presidential awards: NYSC urges new corps members to emulate colleagues

The National Youth Service Corps has urged the newly sworn-in corps
members in Ebonyi to emulate their colleagues who recently received
NYSC presidential awards and Federal Government (FG) automatic
employments.

Mrs Ann Ibe, NYSC Coordinator in Ebonyi, disclosed this on Thursday at
the corps permanent orientation camp in Afikpo during the 2019
swearing-in ceremony of the batch ‘B’ stream 1 corps members.

Ibe three corps members from the state won the NYSC honours
award and automatic employments into the federal civil service.

“They also gained automatic admission into any university of their
choice in the country to study up to Ph.D level.

“It is pertinent to note that performances of past and present corps
members in the state have remained inspirational and encouraging,” hem
said.

The state coordinator noted that 1,950 corps members deployed to the
state have reported to the camp and have been registered.

“The corps members since their arrival on camp, have shown a great
sense of discipline, diligence, zeal and enthusiasm to excel, a
character trait which portrays them as patriots.

“The prospective corps members are from various states of the
federation and Abuja with different socio-economic, religious and
cultural backgrounds that shows the beauty and strength of the
nation’s unity in diversity,” she said.

Gov. David Umahi directed security agencies to provide adequate
security to corps members serving in the state, noting that their
security was paramount to the government.

Umahi represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr
Kenneth Ugbala, noted security agencies are on ground make the corps
members contribute to the state’s development in safe environments.

“Ebonyi is among the safest states in the country and corps members
are assured of their safety in all localities of the state.

“You should not be bothered on where you are posted after your
orientation programme because every part of the state have been
developed to compete with urban areas,” he said.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of the
corps members through upward review and regular payment of their
allowances and renovation of the orientation camp.

Mr Jonathan Okoronkwo, Acting Chairman of the NYSC State Governing
Board and Permanent Secretary Designate—Ministry of Youth Development
and Sports, welcomed and assured the corps members of an eventful stay
in the state.
