Presidential/NASS polls: Low turnout of male voters recorded in Kano

The presidential and National Assembly elections in Kano was on Saturday greeted by lack of interest on the part of male voters, even as women in their large numbers demonstrated their enthusiasm to vote candidates of their choice.

Blueprint correspondent who scouted round some of the towns in Kano observed that polling units were almost filled to the brim as early as 8.30am by hordes of voters, majority of which were women, despite little challenges encountered in the course of distributing election materials to some of the polling stations in Kano

In Fagge DI, for example, our correspondent also observed  polling units under the ward and the people that besieged them were almost left  in dilemma, not knowing their fate for hours as a result of the late arrival of the voting materials, a situation whichalso obtained in some polling units in Kano metropolis.

An aggrieved voter in the area who craved for anonymity told our correspondent that the late arrival of the election materials have made them to start losing confidence in the system, adding that there was the urgent need for the distribution log-jam to be cleared in earnest.

On his part, the presidential flagbearer on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, cast his vote at exactly 11.45 at his Kwankwaso ward in the presence of a surging crowd.

He used the occasion to tell his supporters that with what he had seen on ground, he has no iota of doubt that he would emerge victorious, calling on voters to exercise their civic rights in electing a credible candidate of their choice.

In the same vein, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, cast his vote at exactly 10am Saturday at his Ganduje Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area in the presence of his supporters and admirers.

The governor told newsmen that he had confidence in the manner the elections were being conducted and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for introducing the BVAS in order to prevent any foul play.
