Presidential poll: Abia SDP backs Buhari

Abia state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has adopted a resolution in support of its National Executive Committee’s decision endorsing the re-election of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

The motion was adopted Saturday by the State Executive Council after it was moved by Mr Chijioke Ozems, the party chairman Isiala Ngwa North, and supported by chairmen of the party in 17 local government areas of the state.

Therefore, the execo members tasked the campaign organization for the re-election President Buhari to mobilise voters in that regard saying the support was only at the level of presidential election.

Earlier in his address, the state chairman of the SDP, Mr Chidi Nwosu, told members of SEC that the essence of the meeting was to intimate them of the decision reached at the NEC meeting with regard to the support of the APC presidential candidate since the party was unlikely to field a presidential candidate because of pending litigations.

Nwosu said the NEC arrived at the decision when it realized that the INEC may not wait for the party to resolve its legal tussle at the Supreme Court before it conducts the presidential election.

He said the NEC reviewed among other issues the efforts of the party in the forthcoming election, nationwide, state to state, and the zonal and presidential levels including the chances of their candidates vying for various political positions.

He said the NEC settled for Buhari against Atiku Abubakar of the PDP after was moved and was unanimously adopted by all.

He, therefore, called on his party members to see reason why the party took the decision noting that what was paramount to the party was the collective interest of all.
