Presidential poll: Anambra women threaten Obiano

Few days to the 2019 presidential election, women groups in Anambra State under the auspices of Women for Credible Democracy and Anaocha Women Vanguard have threatened to embark on nude protest if Governor Willie Obiano did not withdraw his support for President Muhammad Buhari re-election in place of Atiku Abubakar whose running mate is Peter Obi.

In a communique jointly issued by the groups and signed by Mrs Juliana Onuora and Mrs Edy Ebele Nwokedi, on behalf of Women for Credible Democracy and Anaocha Women Vanguard, respectively, after a joint meeting held in Agulu, Anocha Loca Government Area, the groups said it has become obvious that Governor Obiano is working against the man that placed him in the saddle of power.

“We want to note with sadness that the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, is working against the aspiration of Mr. Peter Obi as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“Body language and statements of our governor over the period shows that he has concluded plans on how to galvanize support for the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Anambra and other South East states.

“Recently, the Ohaneze Ndigbo endorsed the Atiku/Obi ticket, but Obiano and his team countered it.

“We want to place it on record that the objective of canvassing against the second term aspiration of Buhari is to save Nigeria from total collapse; and to get the country working again. Therefore, any man or woman working against the project is an enemy of Nigeria.

“We want also to remind Obiano that we are aware that his idea of fielding candidate for the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the presidential race is to lay ambush against Obi in Anambra and other South East States”, the communiqué read.

The women also told the governor not to forget in a haste how Obi singlehandedly installed him as governor in Anambra; insisting that posterity would work against him (Obiano) if he continued to work against Obi.

The groups also tasked Obiano to urgently organize a rally where he would declare his unalloyed support for his predecessor to show that he “is actually not working against the collective interest of Ndigbo”.

They went further to threaten that they would protest naked in front of the Anambra State Government House, and lay curse on the seat of power if the governor continued to work against Peter Obi.
