… Prime, Enyimba, Lobi zoom into q/finals

Prime Football Club of Osogbo continued their fairy runs in this year’s Federation Cup by qualifying for the quarter-finals after beating hard fighting First Bank FC of Lagos 3 – 2 in a nail-biting penalties shootout at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, yesterday.
In Akure, defending champions, Enyimba FC of Aba, were sent to the cleaners by Nembe City by 2 – 1, while the same scoreline was recorded in the match between Sharks FC of Port Harcourt and giant killers, Dynamite FC.
Lasisi Yusuff, shot Prime into lead in the 20th minute from a rebound off Abdullah Fatai’s free-kick.

First Bank came into the game stronger after conceding the first goal and their fireworks in front of goal was curtailed by the impressive Prime defence line and goalkeeper, Adejare Adeniyi, to end the first half a goal in favour of Prime.
First Bank took full advantage of some Prime’s sloppiness at the back to level scores in the 54th minute.
The hostilities became a ding-dong affair with neither side unable to break the deadlock until regulation time and the match officials had to result to penalties kicks to decide the winners.
The Omoluabi Giants’ keeper, Adejare Adeniyi, stopped three First Bank’s kicks to send his side to the quarter finals, while First Bank safehand, Shakiru Lawal saved two of the Prime’s kicks.
There was a wild jubilation among the players and the fans as Prime booked their ticket into the quarter-finals.
Prime will lock horns with the winner of Bayelsa United/Gateway FC in the quarter finals next week.
