Pro-Buhari group raps Ortom over comment on own ex-aide

The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has called out governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state for what it described as his hypocritical comments where he accused his former aide, Terwase Akwaza, also known as Gana, of causing mayhem and destabilising communities in Benue state.

Terwase had been declared wanted by the security agencies for his role in the herdsmen/farmers clashes and other crimes in Benue state and other parts of the North-central geo-political zone.

BMO in a statement signed Sunday in Abuja by its chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and secretary, Casiddy  Madueke noted that Governor Ortom had previously played politics with the security of his state by refusing to tell the truth about the true causes of the security situation in his state, but rather used the unfortunate events that took place in his state to curry political sentiments in his favour.

The group stated that Ortom had celebrated the murder of Benue State indigenes by criminal elements, with a parade of coffins and a jamboree burial which he couched as a Fulani massacre of Benue people, instead of mourning the dead in peace and working with the federal government to bring the killers to justice.

“Governor Ortom overtly created tension in his state and created division among the peace-loving people of Benue state. He fuelled a hate ideology that encouraged crisis in the state, while diverting the mind of the people from the real issues of under-development, a product of his mismanagement of the state’s resources.

“He cleverly hid the fact of his relationship with two notorious militia leaders, Alhaji Teshaku , who has been arrested for the massacre of priests and worshipers in a church – and Terwase Agwadza.

“It looks like a joke when Governor Samuel Ortom appears on television to accuse his former aide, who he once supplied with vehicles and security officials, of being the cause of mayhem in his state.

“When well-meaning Nigerians were asking him to turn over Gana to the security agencies he did not do that; it is common knowledge that the same Samuel Ortom provided the fugitive with security cover, and rather used media stunts to blame the entire killings in the state on herdsmen clashes with farmers.”

“So what has changed now? He has won his re-election and is tired of playing politics with serious security challenges? Or his relationship with Gana has gone sour?”

The group stated that it was public knowledge that Governor Ortom had once granted Gana amnesty and protection, so much so that he(Ortom) was seen at Gana’s thanksgiving ceremony at Gbishe.

The group called on politicians not to politicise evil because it worked in their favour, but rather expose evil and stand for truth and justice, as evil would always come back to haunt those who supported and sponsored it.

“Now look at Governor Ortom, finally acknowledging to the world that the monster he once bred is the one terrorising his state; if he had done the needful when he had the chance to turn Gana over to the police, this would not be the case right now.”
