Prof Bala’s appointment well deserved –Al-Makura

Governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura who had earlier confirmed the acting vice chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed as the substantive vice chancellor of the university said the appointment was based on merit and described it as well deserved.

This was revealed in a statement signed by the public relations officer of the university, Comrade Abraham Ekpo and made available to Blueprint in his office Tuesday.

          Secretary to the government of Nasarawa state, Barr. Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, who signed the appointment letter on behalf of the visitor to university, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura described the appointment as well deserved and timely.

“Following the outcome of your interview for the position of vice chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and sequel to the recommendation of governing council of the university and the exercise of the power conferred on the visitor of NSUK and governor of Nasarawa state, vide paragraph 4 (1) of the first schedule of law establishing NSUK 2001, His Excellency Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura approved your appointment as vice chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.”

          According to the statement, the appointment takes effect from April 3,2019,  for a single term of five years while the vice chancellor’s remuneration and allowances shall be in accordance with the approved salary structure of the university and the terms and conditions.

          Bala a professor of political sociology and development at the University of Abuja, was born on March 5, 1963 at Laminga, Nasarawa LGA in Nasarawa state.

          He started his early education at Senior Primary School Laminga from 1970 to 1976, and proceeded to Government Secondary School, Nasarawa, from 1976 to 1981, School of Preliminary Studies, Keffi, from 1981 to 1984. 

The quest for higher education took him to   Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) between 1984 and 1987, where he bagged B.Sc. in Sociology and M.Sc. Sociology. He obtained PhD in Sociology at the University of Jos.   Professor Bala, a seasoned university administrator and erudite scholar, had worked and held various positions in the university. He had written a number of journals and presented numerous papers both in national and international conferences.  He is married with children.
