Prof Rasheed, worthy of emulation

The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed mni MFR, is a patriotic Nigerian that is being commended every blessed day for his exemplary leadership qualities. He is gifted with all the needed for success in life, with a rich curriculum vitae, and is truly educated and disciplined. A Bayero University, Kano, ABU, Zaria and University of Nottingham graduate, he was among some of the best students the universities have ever produced during his days.

Ever since his assumption of office he not only proved his arm chair critics wrong, he also launched a revolution in the transformation of NUC that remains indelible in the annals of the commission. Prof. Rasheed doesn’t leave files on his table untreated. He treats files every day. Like the military slang, “Soja go, Soja come, barracks remain”, the ES proves to be the type that with more time for their office assignments. In that wise a job well-done.

Prof. Rasheed is a man who understands the reality of our country. He respects people, no matter how down trodden they may think they are. And one good thing with him is that he maintains his old childhood friends and his school mates of early 60s/70s. He hates dishonesty, sycophancy, deception, gossip and cheating. Prof. Rasheed is always ready to receive people at home and in the office and believes in first come first serve.

If Sardauna was Namiji Uban Yan Boko, Prof. Rasheed is the juggernaut of administration – a is man of integrity, dynamic, principled, versatile, articulate, outstanding and a gentleman among gentlemen; a typical northerner who cares for Nigeria’s development as a whole, and doesn’t discriminate from whichever section of the country one comes, Muslims or Christians.

If only we had more people like him, the country would be a far better place than it is today. Prof. Rasheed has held different appointments in the country like being the managing director, New Nigerian Newspapers, vice-chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, and currently Executive Secretary NUC. He also holds several awards and his record is umimpeachable.
