Professionalism: ANUPA to present a bill to NASS

The Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators, (ANUPA) is to present a Bill to National Assembly towards translating into a Chartered Institute that will enhance professionalism in Nigerian Universities Administration.

The Bill titled “The Chartered Institute of Administrators and Registrars of Nigerian Universities (CIARNU) of 2019 will soon be laid at the two Chambers of the National Assembly for enactment into law. 

National President of the Association Barrister Titus Igwe disclosed this in Abuja during a visit by the Committee members to Senator Tolu Odebiyi in his office at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja. 

Igwe told newsmen that Senator Odebiyi had agreed to sponsor the bill in the Senate chambers of the National Assembly on behalf  of Professional Administrators in Nigerian Universities.

He explained  that the General Assembly of the Association at its Annual General Meeting held at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State in November 2017 had approved the recommendation of the special committee for the establishment of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Registrars of Nigerian University adding that the National Council of the Association had since been working with the relevant stakeholders in Tertiary Institution Management notably the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities ARNU, the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigeria Universities, CVC, TETFund, and National Universities Commission

(NUC) on the needs for the translation into a professional Institute in order to bring the Association to same level with similar international professional bodies to further enhance global best practices in Nigerian Universities Administration.

Igwe further said the bill is seeking to establish the Institute with development of curriculum for training, retraining and certification of members in the administration of the nation’s Ivory tower. 

He added that the Bill, when enacted, will adopt a national register of professional administrators in Nigerian Universities with emphasis on continuous professional development (CPD) Discipline and capacity building for University Administrators in line with global best practices.
