Anambra: Protect us from harassment, Eziowelle indigenes urge Obiano

An indigene of Eziowelle town in Idemili North of Anambra state, and member of the traditional ruler’s  cabinet, Chief Felix Okafor, has called on the state Governor, Willie Obiano, to protect him and the people of Eziowelle town from harassment and intimidation from the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Mike Okonkwo Etusi, Owelle 2 of Eziowelle.

Chief Okafor, who made the call at a press conference, in Abuja on Sunday on behalf of the people of Eziowelle town, accused the monarch of constant harassment and intimidation because of his philanthropic activities to the people in the town, who he said to have been in darkness for the past 25 years.

According to Okafor who has been abroad for a long time, knowing that development of a community cannot be left for the government alone, said he decided to be sending money to the traditional ruler of the community to improve the living standard of the people through provision of infrastructure and other basic amenities.

“However, when I came back to my town from overseas, I discovered the money I have been sending was not used judiciously. The Eze used most of it for personal aggrandicement like buying of personal landed property and other things, at the expense of the people’s happiness.

“We demanded that the Igwe showed us the development he used the money I sent for, but he could not. We decided to leave him alone, while I do my best to personally provide the needed basic necessity for the people. That was my wrong and the genesis of the intimidation and harassment from the Igwe in council. He has been using the Police to intimidate and harass me on daily basis.

“We are calling on the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to come to our rescue, because there are so many atrocities going on in my town in Eziowelle.  Stealing and kidnappings are going on daily in the town. The people cannot no longer sleep with their two eyes closed, because of fear of being kidnapped or rapped,” he said.

Okafor stressed that he has taken the decision to liberate the people of Eziowelle town from their years of suffering, but that cannot be achieved with the constant intimidation and harassment from the Igwe in council, thereby appealing to the state government to step into the situation, so that development can thrive in the town.

“I have decided to liberate the people of Eziowelle town, because the people have suffered enough and nobody can stop me from doing that. Enough is enough, there must be a change in my community, no matter the intimidation or harassment. With God on our side, the needed positive change must take place in my community,” he said.
