Protest: Nasarawa judicial service reinstates 20 staff

The Nasarawa state Judicial Service Commission (NJSC) Thursday announced the reinstatement of its 20 dismissed staff, who refused to receive queries issued to them as a result of their participation in a protest.

This was contained in a statement signed by the secretary of the commission, Hafsat Turaki Sanda, and issued to journalists in Lafia.

The statement said, following intervention from various stakeholders and the Emir of Lafia, HRH Sidi Mohammed Bage I, the commission in its regular meetings of 13th June 2019, resolved to, and magnanimously reconsidered its earlier decision dismissing the staff from service.

Consequently, the commission commuted its dismissal from service to termination of employment as a result of their unruly behaviour and assault on the Hon. Chief Judge of the state, Justice Suleiman Dikko, on 13th November 2018″.

However, in its meeting of October 16, 2019, the commission conceded in a resolution to reinstate the dismissed staff on the following conditions;

“That there will be no refund of the salaries accruing to these 20 staff, and all other staff that had been away from their duty posts from November 2018 – till 16th October, 2019.

“That the reinstatement of these 20 staff is effective from 16th October, 2019. That the 20 staff are to be demoted with a grade level downwards, to serve as deterrence.

“That the commission had reiterates its position of withdrawing all its administrative and technical support to all Unions and associations in the state Judiciary.

“In order words, the management of the Judiciary will no longer act as collecting agents of associations check off dues. Therefore, staff are at liberty to pay their check off dues individually.”

The commission insisted that the Nasarawa state judiciary cannot condone gross misconduct and will always punish any act of commission or omission that could impugn its collective integrity.
