Protest trails Bauchi APC LG congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Bogoro local government area of Bauchi yesterday staged a protest in the town, following failure of the congress committee to conduct election of new party leaders on Saturday. Speaking with newsmen after the protest, an APC chieftain and former state Commissioner for Environment, Audu Gani Bogoro, said the party members had shown up at its secretariat as early as 9:00 am on Saturday and waited until evening but none of the committee members was present. Bogoro alleged that the congress committee was hijacked and compromised by the state government, appealing to the party national headquarters to organisde fresh election in the area. “When we turned up at the party secretariat in the local government, it was locked and none of the congress officials was present. So, we suspect that they have compromised.
We will reject any attempt to impose leaders on the party against the wills of members,” he threatened. While calling on party stalwarts to remain calm, the APC chieftain urged state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, to allow fairness to prevail in the party. Our correspondent gathered that similar demonstration took place in Tafawa Balewa local government against the exercise. The protesters called for the cancellation of the election and conduct of fresh one.
