Recently, photos of university admission seekers protesting the closure of registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) examines Bariga, Lagos, were published in the media.
Ordinarily, one would lend support to legitimate agitations against obnoxious policies. But on second thought, it is permissible to reason that if prospective university students become restive at the point of seeking admission, such actions are likely harbingers to the crisis to expect if such protesters eventually secure admission.
However, policymakers need to have proper stocktaking before enunciating policies, while consumers of such policies should avoid playing to the gallery.
