A former governorship candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) in Bauchi, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Danchina, has advocated for the diversification of Nigeria’s economy through mining and farming activities in order to arrest the army of the unemployed youth roaming the streets in the country.
He made the call yesterday in an interview with journalists in Bauchi while declaring his ambition to vie for president in 2019 under the platform of KOWA party.
Dan China alleged that the incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have performed below expectations and failed to redeem their campaign promises for almost three years now.
The presidential hopeful attributed “bad governance in the country and stunted growth over the years” to absence of relevant professionals to head ministries, departments and agencies.
According to him, most of the current ministers of the federal republic and heads of extra-ministerial departments appointed by President Buhari have not been posted to offices relevant to their professions, a case which makes them unable to perform well and bring development to bear in the nation.
Danchina, who is a miner and environmental expert, promised that he would diversify the nation’s economy if elected president come 2019 by revamping farming and mining activities with a view to stopping the over dependence on oil as the only source of revenue of the government.
“Industrialisation in Nigeria is neglected. Mining and farming can provide numerous jobs to teeming unemployed citizens. But it is unfortunate that this important sector has been neglected despite the abundant mineral resources God endowed this country with. Since I finished my education, I have never worked with government. I engaged in mining activities for over 21 years now and I am successful,” he stated.
