Provost charges school administrators on students’ welfare

The Provost, Federal College of Education, Okene, Dr Iyela Ajayi, has called on administrators of tertiary institutions to protect the interest and encourage students to enable them achieve their dreams of becoming leaders of tomorrow.
Ajayi, made the  during the 2014 convention of zone ‘C’ of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) held at the premises of the college in Okene, Kogi state, lat Saturday.

The Provost, who also received an award of excellence from the students body, said for any institution of higher learning to enjoy peace and tranquility, which he noted was the panacea for quality education, pointed out that school administrators must take the interest of students seriously and encourage them on the best ways they could achieve their desire.
He said the award bestowed on him by NANS zone C, would spur him to do more for the development of the college.
“This award is dear to my heart, it poses a great challenge to me and the entire members of management. The award will spur us to double our efforts in our quest to develop the college. We will not relent to do more for the students and the immediate community”, he assured.

He also disclosed that the management ensured that there is smooth, free and fair students’ union elections to forestall undue pressure and manipulations, adding that students of FCE Okene, enjoyed were National Health Insurance Scheme (NIHS) as well as Students Welfare Insurance Scheme (SWISS).
“We reduced students’ school fees, which had never, happen in this college. All of these are to encourage them to face their studies”, he said.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant on education matters to President Goodluck Jonathan, Comrade Jude Imagwe, said he led the students’ body to celebrate the man, who so much believed in peace and the welfare of students.
Represented by Comrade Aba Aba , he described Ajayi as a ‘record setter’ who has done a lot for the development of the college and appealed to the provost not to relent in his effort in taking the college to the promise land.
