PRP rejects tribunal ruling on Sani, to appeal judgement

The Peoples Redemption Party in Kaduna state Thursday described as a mere “judicial coronation of fraud” the ruling of the State and National Assembly Tribunal which dismissed the petition of its candidate, Senator Sani Shehu.

The PRP and its candidate Senator Shehu Sani had approached the tribunal to contest the result of the February 23 national assembly election for the Kaduna Central senatorial district, but it was dismissed for lack of merit.

The party dismissed the tribunal ruling delivered Wednesday in favour of the Senator Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress lamenting that the tribunal did not take into consideration manipulation of the results by the ruling APC and its candidate.

It, therefore, rejected the ruling of the State and National Assembly Tribunal which dismissed its petition and affirmed Senator Uba Sani as the duly elected senator for Kaduna central district.

The party apart from rejecting the outcome of its petition before the tribunal disclosed that it would appeal the decision before the higher court on the grounds that the tribunal ruling was a mere “judicial coronation of fraud”.

But the PRP’s state chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Dannirni, said the ruling of the tribunal headed by Justice A. H. Suleiman would not stand as the party “shall without doubt appeal this ruling without delay.”

According to a statement he signed Thursday, the two-hour ruling represents nothing but rape of justice and the crowning and glorification of electoral robbery.

“The tribunal failed to grant our(PRP) request for a recount of the votes. The defendant APC candidate never presented even a single witness to the court to justify his victory.

“The lawyer that represented INEC is Governor Ahmed El -Rufai’s personal attorney. The tribunal didn’t inform the legal counsel of our candidate, Senator Shehu Sani of the date of the ruling,” he added.

Ironically, there was wild jubilation at the campaign office of the incumbent Senator Uba Sani, located along Kachia Road following the verdict of the tribunal. Several supporters of the senator were seen jubilating and chanting victory and solidarity songs, following the tribunal ruling.

Mallam Sule Mahmoud, who spoke on behalf of the supporters said, “the tribunal has finally judged that Senator Uba Sani won the election and we are very happy about it.

“You can see the number of people here, who came out today to celebrate the victory. This proves that the people of the zone love him. And will continue to support him as our Senator. And Kaduna people will support him.”
