The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 6,618 senior police officers to the next rank including one Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG); four Commissioners of Police (CPs) promoted to AIG; and three Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCPs) to CP.
Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, in a press statement, Friday in Abuja, said the promotions were one of the highpoints of the 8th plenary meeting of the commission presided over by commission’s Chairman, Musiliu Smith, IGP (retd).
He said AIG Olushola Oyebade, who is at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Jos, Plateau state, was promoted to the rank of DIG to represent the South-west geopolitical zone.
Ani listed the CPs promoted to the rank of AIG to include one specialist CP Veterinary Department, Aisha L. Abubakar; former CP in charge of Bayelsa state, Asuquo A. A. Amba; CP in charge of Ekiti state, Nekereuwem A. Apkan; as well as CP Anti Terrorism and former CP Cross Rivers state, Olafihan Adeniran Adeeoye.
He said the three DCPs promoted to the rank of CP are Deputy Force Secretary, DCP Jonathan Towuru; DCP Abiodun Alabi of National Defence College; and DCP Akande Kayode of the State House (Presidential Villa).
Similarly, three ACPs Adenola J. Oluwole, Valentine Olumese, and Isa Jibril Grema, were promoted to the next rank of DCP, even as eight Superintendents of Police (SPs) were promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) including Omoruyi Godwin, Clifford Okwor presently of Anambra state command, and Uchendu Fransica Ngozi, Staff Officer Senior (SOS), also of Anambra state command.
Also promoted were 607 DCPs to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SP) including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) 9th Mile, Enugu State Command, Mohammed Yakubu Ibrahi; and Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Zone 5, Emeka Iheanacho.
The Commission also promoted 206 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the rank of DCP, just as 5,786) Inspectors were promoted to ASP11.
