PTAD saves FG over N4bn in 2018

Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has saved  federal government over N4 billion  through payroll clean up and civil service verification exercise in 2018.

The Directorate has also computed and paid pension arrears to over 50,000 verified pensioners across the country.

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of PTAD,  Mrs.Sharon Ikeazor, while addressing North East stakeholders meeting held with pensioners in Yola last Friday.

She further explained that, the directorate have also settled most of the outstanding payments to police,immigration,prison pensioners  among many other achievements since the inception of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari when she took over the affairs  of the agency.

” We have verified over 496 war affected police officers and paid a total sum of #917,656,891.39 to 432  of this category of pensioners. We have recently added 15,162 pensioners of some privatised agencies such as Nigeria- reinsurance, Nixon insurance,delta steel company ,Nigel/mtel,NDA,new Nigerian newspapers among many.others to its payroll and paying this new category of pensioners a total monthly sum of #840,003,651.07″

“In august 2018 PTAD completed the full payment of the outstanding 33% to police pensioners by paying #1,660,897,225.88( 12 months) totalling #5,827,477,936.79 and in September 2016 PTAD completed the full payment of the outstanding 33% arrears to customs, immigration and prison pensioners among many other categories of pensioners”

She further explained that efforts are being made to pay the remaining arrears to those who deserved it subject to availability of funds and reiterated the commitments of president Muhammadu Buhari and the current leadership of PTAD to ensure that pensioners lived the remaining parts of their lives in dignity,good health and treated with utmost empathy and respect.

On their plan for the future she noted that their target is to ensure that pension arrears are significantly reduced and ensure that pension payment are prioritised monthly.

Even as she called on pensioners in the country to join hands with the agency and the federal government to achieved the target goals adding that, they are working in collaboration with anti graft agencies to tackle fraud  and ensure that pension administration in the country does not revert to its previous state.

Also speaking at the meeting the National president of the Nigerian Union of pensioners Dr.Abel Afolayan  represented by the National secretary Arthur zamal  pledged their continued supports to PTAD  but expressed disappointment with the ways and manners most state governors are paying lip service with the welfare of pensioners in their states.

Most of those who spoke at the stakeholders meeting which includes Gov.Bindow jibrilla represented by the head of service Dr.Amos Edger,acting director Gen of pencom  Aisha Dahiru Umar,chairman senete committee on establishment Sen.Ali Ndume all represented commended PTAD for its efforts and commitments towards the welfare of pensioners and assured them of their supports at all time.

Highlight of the event is the commissioning of the NorthEast regional office of PTAD in yola geared towards bringing the services of the agency close to the people especially pensioners for better service delivery.
