Public complaints: Police copter drops leaflets in Kano

A police helicopter yesterday dropped thousands of leafl ets containing hot lines to be contacted by the general public for their grievances to be forwarded in the way they were dealing with the police in their day-to-day aff airs. Speaking to newsmen on the need to drop the leafl ets in various strategic locations in Kano metropolis, the Kano state Police Public Relations Offi cer, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya said the new innovation was in line with the eff ort of the offi ce of the Inspector-General of Police aimed to check the corrupt excesses of some offi cers within the Police rank and fi le.

He added that the provision of the hot lines was a great step towards achieving the desired objective. Majiya said “fi ghting corruption within the echelon of the Force and restoring public confi dence in the conduct of Police offi cers is one of the major cardinal thrust of the Inspector-General,” adding that the “channel for seeking redress was the hot lines provided in the

leafl ets dropped by the police helicopter.” He said the workings of the police were predicated on the premise of high professionalism and good conduct, pointing out that a policeman was a good friend of everybody not an enemy as bandied about in public circles. Majiya said with corruption stamped out from the rank and fi le of the Nigerian Police, the issue of restoring public confi dence would never be far-fetched, affi rming that the country had been abundantly blessed with skilled and competent police offi cers “who can strongly compete with their counterparts the world over.” He expressed the determination of the Command led by Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf to descend on anyone who dared to break the laws of the land with impunity. According to him, the Command is ever ready to complement the eff orts of the Inspector-General in checking the antics of undesirable elements.
