The havoc caused by the rain storm at the Imo Grasshoppers International Stadium Owerri
The Imo Grasshoppers International Handball Stadium in Owerri, the traditional home ground of former African Handball Queens, Grasshoppers Handball Club has been destroyed by heavy downpour which set in some hours after Supreme Court reaffirmed Senator Hope Uzodinma as the governor of Imo State.
Although there were no casualties, the entire roof of the stadium which was put in place by the Emeka Ihedioha administration a few weeks before his Thanksgiving Service there was brought down.
Before the destruction, the stadium had hosted many sporting events under Ihedioha such as lighting of Imo Sports Festival torch, the Sports Festival itself where many events took place, South East basketball tourney etc.
It is worthy to note that the football stadium, Dan Anyiam Stadium adjacent to the Grasshoppers Stadium has been under rehabilitation since Ihedioha’s government and the stadium is being used as an alternative for certain events which would have been organised at the football stadium.
