Ramadan: Islamic scholar tasks Muslims on love, generosity

The Chief Imam Ansar-ul-Islam Society of Nigeria, Kaduna branch, Alhaji Sheikh Imam Munirudeen Shittu, has urged Nigerian Muslims to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan by radiating love to people around them and charity.

Speaking as the guest lecturer at the Ramadan lecture organised by Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Kaduna branch, at Ekemode Hall, Sunday, the scholar said Ramadan is a key pillar of Islam, which shows to all fasting Muslims how the needy goes through pangs of hunger and thirst because they cannot afford food.

He admonished Muslims to love their neighbours and help their brothers and sisters in need by frequently extending charity to them. He urged them to spend their money in promoting Islam and helping the needy, noting that they will be compensated many folds.

“Of the five pillars of Islam, Ramadan fasting is one key pillar because every adult Muslim must fast during Ramadan.

“If there are two groups and they don’t love each other, they would become enemy. Love your parents, even when they are dead, pray for them and give alms on their behalf. Let’s love each other. You have to know Allah before you can worship Him. How do you have money and you cannot be merciful to others. You have big bank account and you cannot help your uncle who is poor. Nobody would take his money to the grave.

“The Islam we are practicing, how are we practicing it? Do we observe our children and the way they practice their Islam? Let’s take good care of our children, we gave our children western education but not enough care for Islamic education. Some elderly people believe they are too old to study Arabic but they are not too old to like money.

“Kings, Imams are all leaders. They should use it well and not be unjust to those they lead. Whatever we do, let’s leave a legacy that would outlive us. All leaders, both good and bad, will have their recompense.”
