Ramadan: JNI adopts national guidelines for tafsir in Jos

The Chief Imam of Jos, Sheikh Lawal Adam, Sunday, admonished scholars and preachers to observe true tenets of Islam in their preaching at Ramadan period.

He said people that listened to their preaching take home whatever they heard from the scholars, either right or wrong.

Sheikh Adam stated this during a pre-Ramadan seminar at the instance of Jos North local government chapter of JNI held at the board room of Jos Central Mosque.

Represented by his deputy, Sheikh Ghazali Ismaila Adam, the Imam admonished the scholars to fear Allah in their deeds.

In his presentation, he said it is necessary for preachers to redefine and redesign how the best of deeds will be out of their preaching unto the people.

“The world is changing. Series of challenges are evolving. Insecurity, poverty, bad governance and others are the order of the day.

“Therefore, we must device new methods on how to preach towards addressing such challenges,” he stated.

Sheikh Adam is of the opinion that scholars should desist from throwing abusive words on leaders, which in turn gives followers the urge to act in like manner.

He said: “It is our duty to also educate our leaders, our politicians, our business men, and our youth on how Islam want them to go about carrying out their duties.”

The duo of Dr. Murtala Yusuf, and Dr. Nazif Yunus harped on the need by preachers and followers to tame their tongues, and also adhere to actual tenets of preaching.

Dr. Murtala Yusuf said one of the problems with preachers is making unguided statements.

“We must tame our tongues, by making guided statements that would not spark insecurity and disunity.”
