Ramadan: Sultan directs Muslims what do in anticipation of new moon

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sunday, called on Muslims to lookout for the new moon of Ramadan 1442 A.H. from today, Monday 12th April, 2021.

The Sultan, who made the call in a statement issued and made available to Blueprint in Sokoto by the chairman Sultanate council moon sighting committee, Professor Sambo Junaidu, said today being Monday, 12th of April 2021 is equivalent to 29 Sha’aban.

The statement read thus: “This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Monday, 12 April 2021, which is equivalent to 29 day of Sha’aban 1442A.H, shall be the day to look for the new moon of Ramadan 1442 A.H.

“Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon and report to the moon sighting committees in their respective towns and villages for onward communication to the Sultan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar in which the Muslims conduct the compulsory full month fasting.
