“Management has considered the appeal from the technical crew and approved a one week break for you to be with your loved ones this Christmas. I charge you all to enjoy the break with your family members and come back refreshed with the vigour required for us to achieve our set target for the season,” said the former NPL boss.
All players and coaches are expected back together on December 27, 2017 in Enugu to embark on a two weeks closed camping exercise in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state from where they are expected to honour the NPFL 2017/2018 league opening encounter in Uyo.
Meanwhile, the team Technical Adviser, Olugbenga Ogunbote has assured the teaming fans of the club that the team was set for the new season expected to kick off January 14, 2018 with an away game to Aiteo cup 2017 champions, Akwa United.
The gaffer who guided two-time African club champions, Enyimba, to a third place finish in the league last season, said that the long pre-season period has enabled him and his technical team to fashion out a winning mentality in the team.
“Except for one or two gray areas in the team that need to be worked on in the next two weeks, I make bold to say that Rangers is set for the new season. The players shall embark on a week’ break to celebrate the Christmas with their family and we shall continue the building process with a closed camp exercise that will lead us into the opening match of the league in Uyo,” he said.
Reacting to the tight fixtures and the quality of the teams involved in the club’ first ten matches, Ogunbote said, “Sure it is a tight fixture but we are not the only club involved so we must fashion out a plan around it. Seven matches in the two weeks of the season is no doubt a tough call for the players but the quality of players we have, I believe we shall do a good job of it. No team can be termed as a strong or weak team. Every team earned the right to play at this level hence, we shall approach every match with a mind set of winning. If we don’t play these teams pitched against us in the first ten rounds we would meet them at a later stage.”
