Recruit more personnel to end B/Haram, lawmaker begs FG

The member representing Gombi constituency in the Adamawa state House of Assembly, Hon. Japheth Kefas, has called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency  recruit more security personnel to end Boko Haram attacks in the North-east.

The lawmaker, who is the Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly, stated this in an interview with Blueprint in his office in Yola while shedding light on the recent Boko Haram attack on Garkida community.

He attributed the escalating attacks by Boko Haram and their successes  on communities, especially in the North-east to factors ranging from insufficient security personal, to lack of intelligence gathering to negligence and relatively weak weapons, compared to those of the insurgents among many other issues militating against the fight against the terror group.

“We are lack sufficient security personnel in this country.  In my village for instance, you can see only two policemen and Boko Haram normally come in large numbers.  How can these two policemen withstand them if they strike? So we are calling on the federal government to do something by recruiting more security personnel so that, at least each village in the seven local government areas where we have been experiencing Boko Haram  attacks will have more than 50 policemen,” he said.

Kefas also blamed the recent attacks on Garkida community on insufficient security personnel and failure of the military to act on information given to them to the effect that the insurgents were trying to attack the town on that day, stressing that when the struck they met only five soldier and killed three of them.

“The military were given four hours notice that Boko Haram were trying to attack the town. They could have prepared properly to safeguard the lives and properties of the people before the Boko Haram invaded Garkida, where they killed three army officers.”
