Recruitment: Police spend N100m on CBT

Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, has said that over N100 million was received from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for the conduct of the Computer Based Text (CBT) for applicants in the on-going recruitment exercise.

The Nigeria Police commenced screening for the recruitment of 6,000 policemen as Constables in the 36 states and FCT on May 7, 2018.

Oloyede, who made the disclosure, at the JAMB office in Bwari, Abuja, noted that the exam took place in 156 centres across the country.

According to him, the exercise was peaceful in all the centres except a centre at Otukpo, Benue state, which had challenges, but was promptly resolved.

He said the duty of JAMB in conducting the police examination was to ensure that those who are screened physically by the Police Service Commission (PSC) are those who write the exam.

The JAMB boss said the board now conducts exams for both private and public agencies as it has facilities which are only used twice in a year for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME).

“At minimum cost we allow people to use the system. We have so many people who believe in us, agencies, and they patronise us, particularly those who want to do things transparently. But if you want to do something that is not that transparent, JAMB is not the right place to go,” he said.

Also, speaking Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Police Training, AIG Istifanus Shettima, disclosed that 37,000 candidates participated in the CBT conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He said that the reason for engaging the services of JAMB to conduct the exercise was to ensure transparency and the best candidates are recruited.
