Reforms will make NPF world-class, says minister

Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Abdul-Jelili Adesiyan, has said that the on-going reforms in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other sectors of the nation’s economy would be in a position to rank amongs the best in the world by the end of the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan.
A statement issued by the ministry’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. James Odaudu, said the minister stated this at a workshop to mark the ministry’s Union Week organised by the Nigeria Civil Service Union at the weekend in Abuja.

The minister said the stoic commitment with which his predecessors pursued the Police Reform Programme would guide him in his desire to properly position the NPF to deliver on its statutory mandate of protecting lives and property of Nigerians and others living in the country.
Adesiyan promised that the federal government would continue to invest heavily in the training of all cadres of Officers and men of the Police Force in all areas of policing as the challenge of providing internal security “gets tougher by the day.”

Speaking further, the minister promised to improve on the welfare of staff in the ministry which included the provision of more staff buses to ease transportation difficulties, prompt settlement of claims and payment of allowances and effective and timely conduct of promotion exercises.
Also speaking, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. James Obiegbu, commended the staff for their unalloyed loyalty and commitment to duty and stressed that the management would remain committed to the improvement of their welfare.
