Renewable energy: Group trains 150 youths

As part of efforts aimed at solving emerging challenges in renewable energy arising from fossil fuel, the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth (ERA/FoEN) Nigeria have trained 150 youths in Benin City, Edo state capital.

The one-day  training/workshop  also include business model on how to tackle emerging challenges caused by Fossil fuel and deployment of entrepreneurial skills on opportunities for business growth.

The Executive Director, ERA/FoEN , Dr Uyi Ojo, said the programme was organised to discourage youths in the Niger Delta including students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) from vices such as cultism, Drug abuse, Human Trafficking and Illegal refining of crude oil.

Ojo who declared the training open said renewable energy is a safer alternative to fossil fuel adding that “it is also environment friendly.”

 He stated, “the world has suddenly realized the havoc that fossil fuel energy is causing to mother earth and therefore  adopted renewable energy”.

Ojo lamented that Nigeria is yet to develop a roadmap on renewable energy, adding that whereas, “established economies in Europe and elsewhere are adopting renewable energy to power vehicles and other technologies”.

A guest lecturer, Mr. Eghosa Osazee Ogbebor, in his presentation gave an overview of financial management and highlighted why most businesses fail?

In the  paper titled: “Importance of Business Proficiency/Financial Resources for Growth”  Ogbebor said capacity building, good business plan, feasibility study and proper documentation are recipe for success for business growth.

According to him, “the success of any business does not depend on capital alone, but, passion, networking and prudent management of resources”.

The president, renewable Energy association of Nigeria, Mr. Shegun Ataju, described renewable energy as a potent weapon for unemployment.
