Rep asks Buhari to reverse Emefiele’s reappointment

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gudaji Kazaure, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse the recently announced reappointment of Mr. Godwin Emefiele for a second term as Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Kazaure who claimed to be speaking on behalf of a coalition of numerous pro-Buhari groups, said: “we, members of the Buhari die-hard group, we are surprised at the reappointment, because a lot of things happened under him. We are therefore asking the president to reverse the appointment, and bring in somebody with integrity”.

The lawmaker who dropped the name of one Suleiman Barau; a man he said had integrity as a better option for headship of the apex bank, argued that a lot of corruption cases against certain appointees of former President Goodluck Jonathan, which were still being investigated happened by anti-graft agencies, and that such funds were released through the CBN.

He however blamed the reappointment of Emefiele on possible misleading advice by “people close to the president, who did not tell him the real truth” about the rot in the CBN u dear the current governor.

He said Emefiele met the exchange of Naira to the Dollar at 180, and it is now hovering around N360. “What reforms has he brought in four years?”, he queried.

According to him, with such appointments, “instead of going to the next level, we will be going to the back level. We need fresh people with good ideas. It is surprising to us, for a man of integrity (Buhari) to do that kind of appointment, and he is fighting corruption”.

He however did not agree with a suggestion that the President may not be in control of his government. “I can die to protect his integrity. He is not an angel, he is not a messenger of Allah, he is human, and so he can make mistakes”, he submitted.
