Reps pledge deeper parliamentary relations with Vietnam, Wase hails Buhari over Supreme Court verdict

The House of Representatives has given assurance of a deeper parliamentary relationship with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as well as take a critical look, and ensure domestication of protocols and agreements between the two.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who dropped the hint on Wednesday also assured Vietnam of Nigeria’s continuous support at international fora, while exploring other socio-economic avenues that would be beneficial to the people of both countries.

Gbajabiamila was represented by Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, while hosting the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister, Vueng Dih Hue, where he disclosed the desire of the House to smoothen areas of concerns and mutual benefits to the people of both countries.

“This visit is well appreciated being the first of its kind since the beginning of our relationships with Vietnam, and if you recall, Nigeria played a very crucial role during your trying times. This is quite welcome, it shows there’s a reciprocal gesture to what has happened in the past”, he stated.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Hue expressed appreciation to Nigeria for all the support received  while noting that as a one of the biggest economy and democracy on the continent, Vietnam is desirous of deepening its relationships with Nigeria and its parliament, as the Asian country is on the drive to spread its diplomatic and trading partnership with the rest of Africa.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, describing it as victory for Nigerians.

The Supreme Court had dismissed the appeal of the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on the ground that it lacked merit, and a statement by spokesman of the Deputy Speaker, Umar Puma, quoted Wase as saying that apex court has shown once again that the Nigerian judiciary was on the right path and can operate independently without any interference.
