Reps suspend plenary in honour of dead member

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, suspended its plenary in honour of a member, Hon. Ja’afaru Ilyasu, who reportedly died on Monday.

The lawmaker until his demise at his Maitama residence, represented the Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who expressed sadness over the demise of the member, had earlier put off a programme he was organising to mark the International Day of People Living with Disability after news of sudden death of the lawmaker broke.
Ilyasu reportedly returned to Abuja on Sunday after a retreat organised for members of the House Committee on Public Accounts in Lagos.

Gbajabiamila in a condolence message said he was “deeply shaken” by the demise of the Niger Rep, whom he described as a gentleman who showed great willingness and determination to work with his other colleagues to make good laws for the country.

“I woke up this morning only to hear the sad news of the passing away of our great colleague, Rep Ja’afaru Iliyasu.Rep Iliyasu was a gentleman and a determined lawmaker who wanted to make his mark in service to his country. Unfortunately, death took him away at this time”, he said.
Regular plenary of the house resumes Tuesday.
