Residents of Dawaki have decried the indiscriminate disposal of refuse in the area shop owners and other traders.
A resident, Mr. David Nathaniel, noted that it was unlawful to dispose refuse into the waterways, adding that when gutters are blocked with refuse “it usually causes flooding, which destroys houses and property as well as agricultural products.”
He urged shop owners and other traders to stop disposing refuse indiscriminately, noting that it was unhygienic.
Nathaniel stressed that indiscriminate refuse disposal was harmful to humans and called on them to exhibit the spirit of cleanliness.
Also speaking, another resident, Mr. Suleiman David, said shop owners were not helping the community with the way they dumped refuse ad kitchen wastes and appealed to them to rather contribute to the development of the area.

He also pleaded with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to provide waste bins in the area “so that the shop sellers and the residents can dispose their refuse.”
Suleiman said indiscriminate refuse disposal always led to erosion, adding that “if appropriate measures are not taken, this will lead to high cost of living in the area.”
On his part, a community leader, Muhammed Ibrahim, noted that at a recent meeting, shop owners and others were warned against disposing refuse in waterways to guard against flooding in the area.
He said indiscriminate disposal of waste was unconstitutional, adding that the residents most adhere strictly to the rule.
Speaking, one of the residents, Simon David, told newsmen that the federal government should ensure that waste was appropriately managed, adding that “waste can be recycled and thereby create job for the youth.”
