Residents of Iragbiji, the hometown Governor of Adegboyega Oyetola, in Osun state, Thursday barricaded roads in the town, protesting mysterious death of a popular herbalist.
The herbalist, it was gathered, died of food poisoning.
According to the protesters, the herbalist attended the naming ceremony of one man where he ate, thus leading to his death.
They alleged that the naming ceremony was held on Tuesday and the food ate by the herbalist eventually led to his death.
The protesters insisted that the herbalist was poisoned at the naming ceremony, and they prevented vehicular movements for some hours during the protest.
The protesters were armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons in the town until they took the protest to the palace.
But, the state Public Relations Officer of the police, SP Yemisi Opalola, said the youths were protesting arrest of their members for drug related offences.
She said some hoodlums assembled themselves to make bonfires on the road, denying motorist to access the road.
Opalola said the reason why the hoodlums were burning tyres at Orita-Alabiamo to Aragbiji Palace was that police arrested one of them for drug-related offence.
She said protesting youths were dispersed with the joint security operatives and peace was restored into the community.
When the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola was contacted on the issue, she explained that at about 9:50 AM in Iragbiji, some hoodlums assembled themselves to make bonfires on the road denying motorist to access the road.
“The reason why the hoodlums were burning tyres at Orita-Alabiamon to Aragbiji Palace was that police arrested one of them over the drug-related offence. We have deployed our men from Ikirun and Iree including the Joint Task Force team to the scene. The hoodlums have been chased away from the road and we have restored peace in the area.
