Rethink National Assembly renovation

The truth is, with the current economic realities, spending a whopping N37bn on the renovation of the National Assembly complex, as budgeted for 2020, is grossly inappropriate and inconsequential. The skyrocketing unemployment rate amongst Nigerians; infrastructural eyesores of our public institutions and facilities all across the nation and the unavailability of some basic amenities like potable water, etc are enough testaments to discourage the disbursement of the funds to execute this prestige project and rechannel the money to address infrastructure deficit and others across the country.

However, this project can be carried out bit by bit, that is, in phases in order to give room to execute capital projects that will ameliorate the suffering of the populace and enhance the total well-being of the citizenry.

Dearly beloved lawmakers, this is a lofty call to serve the fatherland and live up to the expectations of the people that voted you all into office, and, I believe that a rethink at this juncture is paramount as it would serve to improve the state of the well-being and standard of living of all and sundry.
