The Adamawa state government has provided assistance to indigenes who returned to the country after many years of taking refuge in the Republic of Cameroon.

Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state had earlier promised that government would assist those who agreed to return. The returnees became refugees in Cameroon as a result of the invasion and attacks on their various communities by Boko Haram insurgents.

Confirming this development in an interview with journalists in his office in Yola Wednesday, the Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Sulaiman Mohammed said all the 133 returnees have been integrated into their various local governments.

He said the state government has provided ‘starter pack’ for those of them who have one form of business or the other and indicated their interest to continue with their businesses while those who have no skills were attached to  be trained in various skills in any business of their choice. He added that their own ‘starter pack’ would be handed over to them immediately after their training.

He stated further that the state government has also provided them with food stuffs and other necessities they need to keep afloat adding that government will feed them for six months.

He said  the state government is committed to ensure that all Adamawa indigenes taking refuge in Cameroon return home and assured that  government will fulfill all its promises to the returnees by giving priority to their welfare, support and provide them with all necessary skills that will enable them live the remaining part of their lives with dignity.

He further stated that it is because of the seriousness  government attach to their wellbeing that Governor  Fintiri promised to personally visit Cameroon to interface with them on the need  to return home and further re-assure them of government commitment to take care of them.
